Wine
Situated between Bordeaux to the south and Anjou and the Loire Valley to the north, with the up-and-coming Fiefs Vendéen to the west, le Moulin du Chemin is well connected and placed to supply a good variety of distinctive local wines of great character and quality. A selection of more than twelve excellent local wines are served during a six-night holiday.
Many of the wines served at le Moulin du Chemin are made according to traditional methods at family owned and operated vineyards. All wines and other beverages are included in the holiday price
Le Moulin du Chemin’s wine list is witness to the excellence of the wines provided.
Cuisine
Wholesome cuisine is based almost exclusively on fresh, whole and organic ingredients. Ingredients are produced in the locality as far as possible, so something of the methods of production is known, and to save on ‘food-miles’. Dishes are based mainly on traditional French recipes, often with a modern touch.
The typical menu gives an idea the delightful fare on offer at le Moulin du Chemin.
Vegetarian Choice
Le Moulin du Chemin has a long and proud tradition of varied, interesting and imaginative vegetarian cuisine. Other special diets can also be provided. The delicious vegetarian fare on offer at le Moulin du Chemin is described in the attached typical vegetarian menu.
Breakfast
Traditional breakfasts comprise crusty French bread and croissants fresh from the boulangerie each morning, delicious local butter and honey with steaming hot coffee, tea, chocolate or tisane. Conserves – prepared at le Moulin du Chemin using local fruit – muesli, cereal flakes, dried fruit and yoghurt are also provided at breakfast as well as a generous selection of seasonal fresh fruits.
Packed lunch
A half-baguette fresh from the boulangerie and prepared at le Moulin du Chemin with a different filling each day. The ingredients are flavourful, fresh and nutritionally well-balanced. Seasonal fresh fruit is there for you to select to accompany your packed lunch, as well as a variety of individually packaged cakes, cereal and chocolate bars and drinks from the well-stocked 24/7 guests’ fridge.
Civilised picnic
Guests are invited to a civilised picnic lunch beside the lakes at le Beugnon, usually on a Wednesday.
A typical picnic comprises fresh baked baguettes, eggs from le Moulin's free-range chickens, country pâtés, delicious French cheeses, well-chilled rosé wine – often the distinguished Cabernet d'Anjou - followed by desert, fruit, coffee, tea or tisane.
Barbecue
A barbequed evening meal is prepared on le Moulin du Chemin’s log burning barbeque, generally on Fridays.
Delicately flavoured slices of barbequed boudin blanc are served with the aperitif as well as Charente Cantelope melon, etc. The aperitif wine is often a nicely chilled Muscadet-sur-lie.
For meat eaters, thick marinated fillets of ducks breast are often a speciality at the barbeque, with boudin noir and other sausages and hamburgers produced from locally reared grass fed cattle. Different types of delicately dressed green salads and bean or lentil salads are also on the menu.
Substantial multi-vegetable brochettes are often prepared in place of meat for vegetarians.
